Breakfast, Snacks & More
How fortunate that our students never have to worry about trying to learn on an empty stomach. Thanks to a sizeable PRSD Nutrition Grant and to the shoppers at No Frills who contribute to the President's Choice Children's Charity, we are able to distribute breakfast snacks at the entrance points of our school every morning.
Items in the bins this year included milk "bowls" with homemade granola, fresh apples, bananas, oranges, fruit bars, granola bars, individually wrapped rice cakes, yogurt tubes, hard boiled eggs, juice boxes, cheese strings, babybel cheese, Lauging Cow cheese, and beef jerky. We also had microwave chili and rice bowls for those requiring a lunch.
Students could come to the office any time of day to get a snack or lunch, no questions asked.
We are also able to surprise students from time to time with egg burgers from A&W, bacon and eggers from McDonalds, breakfast bagels from Java Domain, taco salads from Tapped Out Gaming, cookies from The Goody Girl, green smoothies prepared on site and poured by parent volunteers, as well as supplying free milk to students every Friday.
Feeding our students with healthy food options is a bit more challenging during the pandemic, but we are #TeamAwesome and we are determined to keep our students' brains in top working condition.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ken Burrows, grandfather to one of our students, and stand-in grandpa to every other student in the school, who passes out food every morning with a twinkle in his eye. You make a huge difference to our school!
Turkey Dinnner: Dec 16, 2020
We had planned a turkey dinner for all of our students on the last day of school before Christmas break, but the Provincial government sent all grade 7-12 students online at the end of November, so only our grade 5s and 6s were able to take part.
Individual meal containers with generous helpings of white meat, dark meat, mashed potatoes (with bits of peel, the way they should be done), gravy, oven-roasted yams, carrots, and potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a fluffy white bun with butter were delivered to each classroom. The sheer logistics of preparing, transporting, and serving a school-wide Christmas dinner during the pandemic are challenging to say the least, but the kitchen staff at Freson Bros. really came through for us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and our bellies .
