Trees for the Future: May 27, 2021
TAN (Take Action Now!) Green Team members gathered today in the courtyard to watch Mr. Johnson plant a new spruce tree which will provide future students with shade and enjoyment. There is a Chinese proverb which says the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is now. Every one of our students had the opportunity to bring home a seedling in an effort to nurture our planet and our mental health. Thank you to Al Benson from Alberta Forestry for helping us with this project and to all our wonderful families who will be finding homes for our seedlings.
Earth Day: April 22, 2021
Happy Earth Day! We held our first-ever Eco-Fair in the library and it was a resounding success. Members of our TAN Green Team made booths with information on various issues and initiatives. Each class booked a 20-minute slot throughout the day to visit the fair where students could view exhibits, enter their names for prizes, and commit to taking action to reduce their carbon footprint by adding a leaf to the pledge tree. Check out some of the highlights and take comfort in knowing that our earth really is in good hands!
2nd Annual Christmas Market: Dec, 2020
For two years, the staff of T.A. Norris Middle School have contributed items for our "Christmas Market". This market is to allow students who may not get a chance to go shopping to pick an item to put under their tree at home for that special family member. This has been a pilot project for the last two years and with its success, we will be making it an annual event.
Preparing for Christmas: Nov 27, 2020
As a final gift to the school before heading home for provincial-mandated online learning, our Top Wolves leadership group set up a tree for the grade 5s and 6s to enjoy during the weeks leading up to Christmas. As per tradition, Mr. Johnson had the honours of placing the star on top of the tree.
Terry Fox Fundraising: Sept, 2020
Ava Lunn (5FI) led the school with $260 in donations to the Terry Fox Foundation. Way to go Ava!!! She was awarded with a Terry Fox T-shirt, a T.A. Norris water bottle, and some T.A. Norris gloves.
Tatum Burns & Charlie Jeffs (6FI) each raised $100, for the Terry Fox Foundation. Great job, you two! They were awarded with T.A. Norris water bottles, for their efforts.
Anonymous donations equalled $100, which brought our school total to $560.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the Terry Fox Foundation whose purpose is "To maintain the vision and principles of Terry Fox while raising money for cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run, Terry Fox School Run, as well as via memoriam donations and planned giving."
